There are not many things that are more precious than seeing Christmas through the eyes of a child. And every now and then if you really listen to their words with your heart, you just may stumble on a priceless nugget of gold! A few days ago my four-year old grandson, Ian, wanted to help me wrap a few gifts. I saw it as an opportunity to have some fun one on one time with him and to share some gramma wisdom about the real meaning of Christmas as we wrapped gifts together. But instead I was the one who was blessed with the innocent wisdom of a child. Being true to his independent nature, Ian wanted to wrap one of the gifts for his Uncle JJ all on his own without any help from me. It was a package of socks and I was about to put them in a small box before he wrapped the gift. He quickly ... View Post
After the Storm
Storms are inevitable. Sometimes you can see them building in the distance. Sometimes they hit with very little notice. The good news is that a storm does not last forever. Eventually, the wind quits roaring... the flashes of lightning cease... the thunder becomes quiet... the torrents of rain become a gentle shower. Storms are not limited to weather patterns. Storms make their appearance in our lives. Jesus said that in this world we would have troubles. (see John 16:33) Notice he did not say we "might" have trouble. He said we WOULD! But if you look closely you will find that there is good news in that same verse. Jesus said he forewarned of these troubles so we could have PEACE! No not our own peace--- but rather peace in him. Peace...in the midst of a storm. ... View Post
Slippery Sidewalks
As I welcome a new day, I stand at one of the large windows in our family room peering out at the winter wonderland in our back yard below. It has been snowing all night. Our home is built on a slightly elevated piece of property so I love the view from this particular room because it gives me a “bird’s eye” perspective of things I might not normally see from other rooms in our home. I take a sip from my morning mug of steaming hot black tea. The hint of vanilla in this brew delights my senses on this frigid morning. There is a little feathered friend perched on a limb of our naked Maple tree just outside my window. He has grandly fluffed his feathers to guard him from the wind which give him the appearance of a feathered ball with a beak. Out of the corner of my eye I catch a flash of ... View Post
Dancing Blue Eyes
As I drive back home after running a few errands I approach the familiar intersection. From a distance I surmise the timing of the lights and whisper a quick prayer of thanks that I will likely have the opportunity to stop at the light. I see him. I see the little man at the corner by the light. He stands faithful at his post smiling and greeting the drivers and their passengers as they speed by. The fact that most of the people driving by do not even take notice of him does not seem to affect him one bit! One hand waves a friendly hello while the other clutches his small stack of local newspapers. It is cold today and his worn grey coat is buttoned up tightly bringing what protection it can from the wind. He wears a black knit cap and he has pulled the hood from his coat over it as ... A Nugget of Potential
Earlier this month my husband and I again vacationed along the upper east coast. The New England area has truly become one of our favorite autumn season getaways. We purposely left our itinerary open in order to do a lot more exploring during this trip. The beauty of this region is breathtaking and there is so much to explore. One of my man's passions has always been lighthouses. This area has an abundance of these magnificent structures and each one has a unique story of its own. The history and beauty of these beacons inspire us to set out on a lighthouse quest as a highlight to our trips along the upper Atlantic coast. Our most recent search took us along an extensive winding path which overlooked the ocean coastline on one side. The opposite side of the path was covered by ... View Post
