Before you read any further, let me say that I hope you are sitting with a full cup of hot tea or coffee in your hand and can devote yourself fully to this story. It is one of the most difficult writings I have done but also one which is the dearest to my heart. Today I want to honor and remember my mom on the 11th anniversary of her passing on to her eternal reward in heaven. The hidden gem in the nugget you are about to read is learning what it means to embrace a struggle, either for yourself or someone you love. I will say this more than once because it is so important to grasp. There is a purpose for that struggle which you may so greatly despise right now. So read on my friend. I have already prayed for you to grab hold of the truth to bring you comfort in the midst of a hard ... View Post
The Perfect Valentine
Hey there! Yes YOU my friend. Lean closer. I have something to tell you. It’s a message of GREAT importance. A love note just for you. Are you ready? GOD…loves…you… PERIOD!!! I want to tell you this because first of all it is the truth. But there is another reason as well. It has to do with that once a year holiday that falls on February 14th. You know, it is the one where everywhere you go you see pink and red hearts, flowers and boxes of chocolates in every store. It seems like everyone you know is talking about their date night with that special someone to celebrate...Valentine's Day! Now don't get me wrong. Like most people, I love flowers and chocolate! But at the end of the day when the calendar flips to the 15th of February, what then? Or perhaps you don't have someone to ... View Post
Listen for the Bell
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 2 Corinthians 1: 3-4 Two Horses Just up the road from my home is a field, with two horses in it. From a distance, each horse looks like any other horse. But if you get a closer look you will notice something quite interesting...One of the horses is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made him a safe and comfortable barn to live in. This alone is pretty amazing. But if you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell. It is coming from a smaller horse in the field. Attached to the horse's halter is a small, ... View Post
The Robins Always Come Back
See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in the land. ~Song of Solomon 2:11-12 NIV It is January in Middle Tennessee and I am sitting at my desk journaling some thoughts for another blog post. My favorite wrap is draped over my shoulders and I gratefully sip on my steaming cup of green mint tea. As I peer out the window I see the sky is dressed in heavy gray clouds and there is a light but steady rain coming down. The forecast calls for a forty-degree day but it is evident that the predicted temperature will be a struggle to reach. Suddenly I see something that a lot of people would not expect to see in the first month of a calendar year. Living in Illinois for 10 years prior, I ... View Post
Nuggets Challenge: Share Your Story
My story might not be defined as unique. I know that others have experienced what I have and some to a far more painful degree. But then again I know that I am unique. A one of a kind creation fashioned by the Creator. So because I am unique, God makes my story unique. He knows exactly who needs to hear my particular story at one particular time. My story...not anyone else's. My story will touch only certain people. My story will bring hope and encouragement to a particular audience. An audience that was chosen by God. But there are other people whom I will never reach. God has ordained for them to hear somebody else's story to encourage their hearts differently. That "somebody" just might be YOU. So what's your story? Maybe it's time to share it. There are more than ... View Post
