Last summer our family took a trip to the eastern part of Tennessee as part of our vacation. We stayed in a peaceful cabin nestled high in the Great Smoky Mountains in Pigeon Forge. Like most families traveling with small children, we tried to take in as many interesting sights as possible during our stay. One morning we decided to spend the day exploring the nearby town of Gatlinburg. We walked the streets for hours visiting multiple shops and stores taking in all we could in our exploration of that quaint southern town. We came upon a Gem Mining shop and thought it might be fun to go in and have our two young grandsons try their luck at finding some hidden gems. They listened intently to the store owner explain the steps needed in order to find some possible treasure. First, the boys ... View Post

Summer is the perfect time to catch up on some great reading. I have put together a summer reading list, along with a book giveaway (details below)! Forever a Mother
There is a particular story I have come across more than once that always touches my heart. I wish I could say for sure that the story is true but in my research, I have read arguments on both sides, both confirming and denying the validity of the events. Regardless of whether the story is fact or fable, it is a beautiful portrayal of the tenacious love of a mother. The story gives an account of a devastating forest fire that occurred. After the fire was finally put out, a park ranger was walking through the forest to survey the damage from the inferno. His foot kicked what he thought to be a small rock. Upon contact with his foot, the "rock" was flipped over. To his utter amazement, three baby birds came scurrying out from underneath. The startled ranger stooped down to see what it was ... View Post
Sometimes God Says WAIT: Book Announcement
Sometimes God says yes. Sometimes he says no. And then sometimes he says WAIT. Sometimes waiting is harder than just a flat out 'no' as an answer. But I have learned that there is always purpose in the waiting. Waiting teaches us to persevere. Waiting strengthens our faith. Waiting allows God to work things out for us in a way we could never accomplish on our own. Waiting makes our dream more precious as we watch it unfold one beautiful page at a time in the story of our lives. Today I present to you one of my dreams. It's been growing slowly but steadily for quite some time. My wonderful family and some precious close friends have been traveling this journey with me for well over two years. I am so thankful for each of them. I could never have come this far without ... View Post
Holding Daddy’s hand
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. ~Isaiah 41:10 NIV A young father proudly takes hold of his tiny daughter’s hand on her first birthday. Today she is taking her first baby steps and he is there to be sure she does not fall or get hurt. His loving gaze is upon her and with a proud daddy grin he says to her, “Hold daddy’s hand sweetheart. I am so proud of you! Look at you go!” A grandpa and his small grandson are about to cross the street to a neighbor’s home for a visit. He takes hold of the child’s hand and says, “Hold my hand. We are crossing the street. I don’t want you to get hurt.” A mother is at the shopping mall with her toddler who refuses to stay in ... View Post
When He Speaks Your Name!
I love the Word of God and I love how it speaks to a person's heart exactly in the way that is needed at any given time. I have lost count of the times when I have sat with my Bible, reading a familiar passage. Suddenly something just seems to jump off the pages and speaks a truth so deep into my spirit that I just know the Lord is speaking to me about a situation in my life. I know I am not the only one. Some of you know exactly what I mean. In those moments you know that the Lord is speaking your name. That's what a Father does. He loves to speak the name of his child. And I believe He delights in the response we have when we hear him call us by name. There is a woman in the New Testament who had this same experience. You have likely heard about her. You have probably read her story. ... View Post
