Things have been difficult for me the last several days but thankfully I am seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. No, nothing catastrophic, but definitely challenging. Somehow, I managed to pick up a terrible, full-blown head cold. The sneezing, blowing, coughing, chills, pounding headache and body aches...well you get the picture. As with most colds, the origin can only be speculated. Maybe I touched a surface where the sneaky virus waited. Perhaps I hugged someone or shook hands with a person who may have been contagious. I could have breathed in the virus at the grocery store. Who really knows? Regardless of how I got it is irrelevant. Suffice it to say I have spent hours in my cozy chair with a plentiful supply of Kleenex, hot tea, chicken soup and of course my huge kitty by my ... View Post
God is behind you and beside you
Hello friends! It has been a while since I have shared my thoughts here. Many of you already know this year brought a lot of changes in my life, the biggest of which was a move. A big move which affected not just me and my husband but my children and grandchildren as well. It would take a blog post of its own to share all the details so that is another topic for another day. Suffice it to say that God's grace and the faithful prayers of many close friends and family helped us maneuver yet another chapter in our lives. Things are finally settling down just in time for the upcoming holidays. Even though I have been away from blogging for a few months, the nuggets have continued to swirl around in my head. I've made mental notes as well as sticky notes on a number of topics so as not to ... View Post
When Praise Doesn’t Make Sense
It is still winter. The sky is a dreary gray and the damp wet cold outdoor air can chill a person to the bones. The sun doesn't seem to grace my little corner of the world much these days. Yet this morning as I pulled back the drapes and peeked out my bedroom window, I saw them. They had faithfully returned once again despite what the calendar says. The robins are back. Crazy right? There is not even a hint of spring...but yet, there they are. Hopping and chirping their good morning praise to their Creator. Because that is what they know to do. I watch them with fascination because they truly seem oblivious to the fact that it is still winter and they seem almost foolish making their appearance at this time of the year. But is it foolishness? I ponder this question and ... View Post
Letting Go and Moving Forward
Have you ever cleaned out a closet that you just could not stand to open the door to because of the mess inside? It seems like each time you go looking for something in that closet, it cannot be found because of the chaotic clutter. Finally, you reach your limit and decide to clean it out. You pull everything out and oh my, what a bigger mess you now have with everything scattered on the floor around you! As you take inventory of the clutter at your feet, you wonder how in the world you are going to get everything back into the closet. Suddenly you realize that some things just have to go. It is time to purge and get rid of what is not useful. This month we have been doing some serious purging in our home. It is messy and unpleasant but it is necessary. I mean seriously...how does so ... View Post
Starting Over
The clock is ticking and 2018 is just hours away from being history. Another New Year is quickly approaching. For some people it is a time of great expectation and anticipation of great things to come. For others there is much uncertainty which can bring worry or anxiety. You look back at 2018 and in many ways are glad to see it go. Perhaps you may even feel that the "merry" in your Christmas or even a major part of the year, was nowhere to be found. I am sorry. Truly sorry. But will you allow me to encourage you just a bit right now? It is never too late to start over. The past is the past no matter how lousy or painful it may have been. You cannot change what was. But you can change what can be. No I do not mean that you have control over your future. None of us ... View Post
Thankfulness… from the Heart of a Child!
2 He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. 3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:2-4 NIV) Another Thanksgiving holiday is just days away. Many families will be traveling and gathering to celebrate this day set aside to give special thanks. Table settings and centerpieces, whether elaborate or simple, will adorn the table where favorite dishes will be passed around for all to enjoy. Laughter and good cheer will resound in one home after another. It is a lovely scenario and one that is almost worthy of a Norman Rockwell painting. The Thanksgiving holiday ... View Post
