Summer is very quickly winding down. Schools at all levels are already a flutter of activity with fresh students eager to learn and grow in many ways as a new academic year begins. Already I am seeing subtle signs in the shortening of the day’s light and the ever so slight beginnings of color changes in some foliage. The stores and ads are already gearing our thoughts to think of the quickly approaching Autumn months which are the start of many traditional holidays. Of course this includes the most festive of holidays for many people, which is Christmas. From now until December people will be planning the “hows, wheres, and whens” as they prepare to celebrate yet “another Christmas.” I love Christmas. I love everything about it. The songs, the festive decorations, the lights, the gifts, ... View Post
Porcupine People
Have you met the “Porcupine People?” For the sake of simplification I will refer to these unique individuals as the “PP” in life. Believe it or not everyone has met, knows, works with, or maybe even lives with one of the PP. Read the following short story and then we can talk about the wonderful PP in our lives and why the good Lord put them there! As the story goes there were two porcupines living in the Arctic and they were both freezing to death. So they drew together for the sake of keeping warm enough to survive. As they drew close they HURT each other. Their prickly quills brought much unwanted pain. So they would draw apart again only to find themselves in greater pain from the frigid temperature. Oh what a dilemna ---stay apart and meet their demise as a frozen "porcu-cicle" or ... View Post
Little Cars…
Life is full of unexpected turns and twists. Even though it should never surprise me how “my plan” never ends up looking anything like “God’s plan” at times I am still awe struck at how his plan is always the better of the two. Years ago I just assumed that at this point in our lives my husband and I would have been empty nesters several years over. Like I said, God had a better plan. My husband and I have the privilege of seeing our sweet 4 year old grandson each morning. We see him during the day and we see him every evening and get to kiss him good night. We take turns tucking him into bed. I look forward with eagerness on the nights when it is my turn to be the “tuck in” person. I count it one of my daily blessings to be a witness to those last precious sleepy moments that bring his ... View Post

Chosen by Him
“Red rover, Red Rover, let Rosie come over!” How many can still remember that playground game as a child during many a recess break in those early school years? First there was the eager joining of hands to make an unbreakable barrier for the one who would be called to the other side. Then the anticipation of waiting to hear your name called was often enough to make your heart jump out of your chest. This mixed with the excitement of actually hearing your name from across the field was what sent that bolt of adrenaline through your body that made you run faster than ever. Oh it was a great game---unless you were one of the last to be called over to the other side. Or even worse was the shame of being the very last one called when all the “best kids” had been chosen and you were the one ... View Post
The Pearls
I read a story some time ago of a little girl who loved to play dress up. She would spend hours searching through the old wooden chest filled with clothes long forgotten over the years. After carefully picking out the perfect satin dress and glamorous floppy hat she would toss a worn mink stole over her tiny shoulders. Oh how she loved to play in her imaginary world of make believe that she was glamorously all grown up. There was one piece of her ensemble that was never overlooked. No matter what costume she put together the final touch for her was a long strand of costume jewelry pearls. How she loved those pearls! Many times she would observe as her mother would carefully lay her own strand of genuine cultured pearls around her neck when she was going out on some special occasion. Often ... View Post
