It has been almost three months now since I posted anything new on my Nuggets blog. I am finally getting the opportunity to write again. It was not that I did not want to write but the truth is that I truly was not able to. Literally not able to! As you read this story you will understand what happened but more important I hope you glean from the nuggets that God has given me during my absence from my blog. December 1st of 2012 rolled in like so many other Decembers as far back as I can recall. I was excited about the upcoming holidays and all that they promised for my family and I. The approaching Christmas season was extra special because my daughter had just had her second baby boy two weeks before Thanksgiving. My four year old grandson was already off the scale in excitement over ... View Post
Go fly a kite!
Sometimes you just have to drop what you are doing and go flight a kite. Seriously? Yes seriously and…literally! This morning as I was finishing up the last of my breakfast my four year old grandson came into the kitchen. Looking out our back door into the yard, he said, “Gramma, it sure is a windy day. It’s probably warm too! I think we should go fly my kite this morning.” A kite? Hmmmm…already I had made a mental check-list of the tasks I planned to tackle after I finished drinking my coffee and no, a kite was not on the list. My list was lengthy but I knew that if I worked strategically I could get most of those things done by noon and still get my work out in. That was my plan…until I looked into those big beautiful hazel brown eyes looking up at me. With a huge smile my little ... View Post
The Power of ONE!
Autumn is in full swing here in my little corner of the world. Everywhere you look it seems that God took buckets of paint and splashed them everywhere clothing plant life and trees in every shade of reds, purples, and oranges. What a Creator of beauty He is! A few weeks ago before the calendar flipped over to October, I was in my front yard playing with my grandson. It was one of those gorgeous pre-fall days where the sun was brilliant and just seemed to beckon the few leaves that were showing a hint of color change to step it up. As I walked around my yard I noticed one of my bushes. This one particular plant literally had ONE bright red leaf on it. Only one! The contrast of the one red leaf against so much green could not go unnoticed. I knew there was a Nugget developing which ... View Post
When Someone Refuses to Change
I am about to address a delicate subject...unhealthy relationships. This topic can be very sensitive and difficult to discuss but I feel that this is an area that is a struggle for many. I know that a number of people have dealt with the topic and I also know there are some that are currently in the midst of this very situation. My purpose in addressing these difficult relationships is two-fold. First I want you to know that you are not the only one who has ever been taken advantage of by another individual. Secondly I pray that these words will open your eyes to see the situation for what it is and to find the grace to let go of things you cannot change. If this is not a topic that directly affects your life you are graciously excused from reading any further. But if you have stumbled ... View Post
God is bigger than cancer!
Exactly six years ago today I was in a Chicago suburb hospital waiting to have my thyroid removed. Just two weeks prior the doctor had given me the greatly unsettling results of my biopsy. The dreaded “C WORD” of cancer was suddenly part of my life. I remember hearing him say the word “cancer” and then all I saw was the movement of his mouth. I think I just sort of zoned out after that until I heard him finally ask if I had any more questions. I blankly stared at him for a few minutes and then the tears came. But in that moment believe it or not the only thing I could think to ask was, “So how big a scar will that leave on my neck?” My husband was sitting next to me and the look on his face said more than words could have. I knew he was thinking, “Are you kidding??? The doctor just said ... View Post
Don’t bury your gift!
"Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters, you did for me." Matthew 25:40[/caption] I heard a story once about a man and his two large water pots. Every day the man would take two empty clay pots and walk down the hill to the river. There he would fill both pots to the brim because back home his family would have great need of the fresh water for drinking, cooking, cleaning as well as many other uses. Both pots were used solely for the purpose of carrying water from the river. The pots were the same shape and size but here was however one slight difference between the two clay pots. One of them had a small crack on the upper part of the vessel. Even though water would seep through the crack as the man walked back home, the pot remained useful so the man ... View Post
